An Influencer Introduction With Jeff Hoogland
Jeff Hoogland shares their favorite tools, how they grow their audience, how they find sponsors, and more.
1 of 13What question are you asked the most when you tell someone you’re a Streamer?
“Does that actually make money?” is probably the most common. People mostly assume that content can be a hobby at most.
2 of 13How do brands find you?
A mixture of ways. I work with an advertising company for some opportunities, others happen because I reach out to someone that has a product I think would be a good fit for my channel.
3 of 13Is there anything that you believe a brand should know before they begin reaching out to streamers?
What their target audience is. A content creator generally knows their audience and what they are likely to be looking for. Not every product is a good fit for every audience.
4 of 13What one tool for your stream can you not live without?
Computer in terms of hardware. OBS in terms of software.
5 of 13How do you decide how much to charge a brand?
Number of factors. How long they plan to advertise for. How well I think their product will go over with my audience. Some brands are an upfront cost each month only, some are a referral amount, some are a mix of the two.
6 of 13What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome when starting out?
Gaining an initial audience. There is a lot of content out there. Being able to get people in front of you and then being different enough to keep them there once they are watching.
7 of 13How do you personally keep your content true to your voice while also delivering value to a brand?
I only accept sponsorships for products that I can validate and use first hand. It keeps my reviews and promotions genuine. It is also much easier to sell something I know is good.
8 of 13What is the biggest challenge you face now that you have an established audience?
Unsure. Things have been going well so far.
9 of 13How did you grow your audience when you started out?
Achieved initial notoriety from other things. For me it was traveling to play in large Magic events so the community I wanted to reach out to already knew who I was.
10 of 13What helps you maintain your motivation to continue streaming?
Enjoying what I do. I love the games I work with.
11 of 13What’s the one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out in streaming?
Do it because you love it. If you don’t enjoy what you are doing it will show and what you are making will be bad because of it.
12 of 13What makes you stand out most to your fans among other streamers?
In general I am known for being firm, specific, and no bullshit. I am to the point and tend to not sugar coat how I feel about things. Many of the people who follow me like that I am direct.
13 of 13What brands would you most like to work with?
Food companies. Snacks are great! Feed me!
